MUNICIPAL WIND ORCHESTRA “AGOSTINHO DUARTE MARTINS”

The Municipal Wind Orchestra was founded in July 1995 and is fully supported by the Municipal Government of Lençóis Paulista. Its initial formation included twelve musicians, mostly from now-defunct local music groups, and it was originally named the Heitor Villa-Lobos Municipal Band, a Concert Band. The orchestra gave its first performance in December 1995 and soon participated in numerous popular, religious, and civic events in the region. Officially established by Municipal Law 2,542 on April 24, 1997, it has been under the direction of Maestro Marcelo Ricardo Maganha since then, who enhanced its technical level, expanded its repertoire, and trained new musicians. Over the years, the orchestra has performed over a thousand concerts, recorded six CDs and four DVDs, and premiered more than 200 compositions and arrangements. It has collaborated with renowned national artists such as Toquinho, Renato Teixeira, Sergio Regis, Trio Los Angeles, and Eduardo Santhana. Its “Maestros and International Soloists Series” has welcomed distinguished guests including Maestro Dario Sotelo (WASBE President), Maestro Luis Nani (ARG), Maestra Pamela Bustos (USA), and soloists like Darcio Gianelli (OSESP) and the Sax Brasil Quartet.In 2014, the orchestra recorded the CD and DVD Show de Estrada celebrating the 40-year career of the sertanejo duo Cézar & Paulinho, as well as municipal anthems for cities like Lençóis Paulista and Dois Córregos. A center of artistic excellence under the Municipal Secretariat of Culture, the orchestra also runs the Youth Symphony Band, training over 40 young musicians for future integration into the municipal orchestra. Performing an average of 30 concerts annually, the Municipal Wind Orchestra continues to pursue technical excellence, ensemble cohesion, and musical expression, creating the unique emotional experience that only music can provide.

Marcelo Maganha
Conductor
Marcelo Maganha was born on April 26, 1977, in Lençóis Paulista, São Paulo, Brazil. His passion for music began early, and by twelve he was already teaching guitar and directing a church choir. He holds degrees in Classical Trumpet and Conducting from the Conservatório de Tatuí, one of Latin America’s leading music schools, where he dedicated 12 years as coordinator, conductor, and professor, shaping the next generation of musicians. Marcelo founded several important cultural initiatives, including the Lençóis Paulista Municipal Wind Orchestra, the Youth Symphony Band, the "Cidade do Livro" Big Band, and the "Metais & Cia" Brass Quintet. As Municipal Secretary of Culture, he transformed the local scene, supporting projects and artists, and creating nationally recognized events such as FILLP and EnCanta Lençóis. In 2023, he organized the 1st Latin American Conference for Composers, Conductors, and Symphonic Bands of WASBE, including a Conducting Symposium and an International Music Competition, bringing together musicians from 14 countries. Specialized in collective teaching methods for winds, strings, and percussion in the U.S., Marcelo also holds postgraduate degrees in Orchestral Conducting, Cultural Management, and Visual Arts. A WASBE member, he has performed in 39 international concerts, promoting Brazilian music worldwide, and has recorded numerous CDs and DVDs with orchestras and bands in Lençóis Paulista and Tatuí. He collaborated with renowned artists including Fábio Brum, Marshall Gilkes, Darcio Gianelli, Rex Richardson, Adam Rappa, and Boston Brass, and created the "Maestro and International Soloists" series, hosting 34 distinguished guests over 14 years. Currently, Marcelo serves as Principal Conductor of the Lençóis Paulista Municipal Wind Orchestra "Agostinho Duarte Martins," Musical Director of the "Cidade do Livro" Big Band, Coordinator of the Youth Symphony Band, and Municipal Secretary of Culture. His work as conductor, trumpeter, arranger, and producer reflects a lifelong dedication to promoting music and culture in Brazil.
