BRAZILIAN REPERTOIRE FOR SYMPHONIC BAND – Analysis and Interpretation

This clinic addresses the Brazilian repertoire for symphonic band in the last decade of the 20th century, focusing on the works driven by the Project for the Promotion of Brazilian Musical Creation of the São Paulo State Symphonic Band, of which he was the creator. The project consisted of commissioning original works for winds and percussion from the most prominent contemporary Brazilian composers, and he was responsible for premiering more than two dozen works that encompass a wide range of musical aesthetics.

Roberto Farias

Brazilian conductor and composer, Commander, Chancellor, and Immortal of the Brazilian Academy of Music, he was the creator of the Cubatão Symphonic Band. A graduate of the Santos Music Faculty (SP), he served as Artistic Director of the São Paulo State Symphonic Band; Principal Guest Conductor of the Buenos Aires City Symphonic Band; Artistic Director of the Córdoba Province Symphonic Band; Professor of Orchestral Conducting at the Tom Jobim Free University of Music; Board Member of WASBE (1999–2005); recipient of the 1990 APCA Award for Best Conductor; 1998 Carlos Gomes Award; Counselor of the Order of Musicians of Brazil and Curator of the Eleazar de Carvalho Artistic Merit Diploma; Postgraduate Professor at the ALPHA Institute; and General Director of MUSICAD – Permanent Seminar on Conducting.
