Parque das Ruínas
Parque das Ruínas is a public park and cultural center located in Rio de Janeiro’s historic Santa Teresa neighborhood. The site features the restored ruins of the mansion that once belonged to Laurinda Santos Lobo, a prominent socialite of the early 20th century. During the 1920s, her residence served as a vibrant hub for artists and intellectuals, hosting figures such as composer Heitor Villa-Lobos and painter Tarsila do Amaral.
In 1997, the mansion was transformed into a cultural center, preserving its original brick walls and integrating modern structures of glass and steel. Today, Parque das Ruínas hosts art exhibitions, concerts, and theatrical performances, continuing its legacy as a gathering place for cultural expression.
Visitors can explore the ruins and enjoy panoramic views of Rio de Janeiro, including landmarks like Sugarloaf Mountain, Guanabara Bay, and the city center. The park’s unique blend of historical architecture and contemporary design, along with its cultural programming, makes it a must-visit destination for those interested in the arts and the city’s rich history.
